North Far North Efforts Keep K-12 Career Ed on the Calendar

It would be easy to forgive K-12 educators for keeping the first few weeks of summer vacation sacred.

Instead, teachers and administrators are trading their “me time” for “CTE time,” keeping the torch lit for career education in the North Far North. Bolstered by Strong Workforce support, programs like the “Summer of CS” workshops – hosted statewide throughout June and July – help CTE-centric projects maintain momentum through the summer break, while keeping participants connected along the way.

“Summer workshops are vital for educators,” says Dr. Heidi Baynes, Coordinator for Educational Technology for the Riverside County Office of Education. “They offer intensive sessions for professional development [to] foster networking, inspire fresh teaching approaches, provide new resources, and ensure ongoing support and connection within a collaborative community."

First Certificates Awarded Under Fast-Track Mechatronics Program

Sierra College awarded certificates of achievement to 10 Bosch associates who recently completed a customized Mechatronics program. The program was designed through collaboration between Sierra and Bosch to help prepare workers with the skills and training that will be needed as Bosch works toward production of the first silicon carbide chips at the Roseville site in 2026.

SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the  Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) awarded $30.5 million in California Competes Tax Credit (CalCompetes) awards to seven companies, supporting the creation of new jobs and spurring more than $2.1 billion in new private investment across the state.

30 percent of some Microsoft code now written by AI - especially the new stuff

Nadella revealed that number during an interview with Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg at the latter mega-corp's LlamaCon event this week.

Overall, Microsoft finds AI is best at writing entirely new code rather than reworking older material, but the biz is finding ways to use AI often across its codebase.

One more thing: Neither billionaire commented on whether their autocoding efforts are costing jobs, or if the code their companies generate without human input has proven problematic. Zuckerberg said he thinks AI coding presents an opportunity to improve security.
