Professional Series Piloted at Woodland Community College

Creative solutions to ongoing needs occur when programs partner! In partnership with Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOP&S/CARE), Foster/Kinship Care Education (FKCE), CalWorks, campus Student Outreach and Engagement, the campus Career & Transfer Center at Woodland Community College hosted the beginning of a Professional Series for students of the four-campus district in May.

“Responsiveness to employers and properly preparing students is our responsibility,” said

Alena Anberg, Director of Employer Partnerships. “Students can gain experience preparing professional portfolios, learn common best practices in networking professionally and actually get started during the workshop! We’re thrilled to invite members of the North / Far North Regional Consortium to attend CCCAOE’s Fall 2025 Conference, Collaborating for Success: CTE Partnerships Driving a Future‑Ready Workforce, hosted at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort from October 22–24,2025.

Vision 2030 Update & Work Plans

WEDD Annual Report 2024-25

As the WEDD team is off and running in this new fiscal year, we’ve reflected on all our system wide accomplishments over the last year and were amazed and proud of the incredible work, presence and visibility that has been provided across the system. To capture a few of these moments, the team wanted to share with you a report showcasing our collective impact to the success of California’s learners, whether they be first generation college students, upskilling professionals, or those seeking a mid-career change.

Today, we are excited to share the first edition of the Workforce and Economic Development Division Annual Report.  This report has been a labor of love and includes updates on how the WEDD team is improving efficiencies to meet our system’s growing needs, stories from Vision 2030 demonstration projects, and updates on new MOUs that we hope will provide a framework for success across all 116 colleges.

ICanGoToCollege.com Website Now Available

The California Community Colleges ICanGoToCollege.com (I CAN) campaign is pleased to announce the launch of its full website in Tagalog, broadening the language offerings to engage California’s Filipino community and encourage prospective student enrollment. The new Tagalog site will increase the language offerings to six, adding to the English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Spanish-language options already available.  

California is currently home to more than 7.3 million Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs)—and that number is on the rise. Within California’s AANHPI community, Filipinos are the second most populous ethnic group, with Tagalog a top spoken language.

Engaging prospective students to encourage enrollment continues to be a priority since all higher education institutions experienced notable declines during the pandemic. While enrollment at California community colleges is fortunately back on the rise, data shows the Filipino community is slower to recover; adding in dedicated resources like an in-language website can help to close that gap.

The new Tagalog I CAN site provides current and prospective students and their families a one stop shop for important in-language information on career education and guaranteed transfer programs, basic needs and other resources, financial aid, bachelor’s degree programs, dual enrollment, housing support, and more. For first-time students, most of whom prefer to receive information in English, the Tagalog language website offers a way to share information with their parents or guardians in-language. Older, returning students are more likely to prefer information in-language, so this website provides access for them, as well.

At the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, we appreciate and celebrate the diversity and contributions of the multicultural communities that make up our great state. We remain committed to ensuring students from all backgrounds are supported in reaching their goals, enabling them to improve their lives and the lives of those around them. Providing culturally responsive resources like the Tagalog I CAN website helps achieve this vision and ensures students have equitable access to higher education.

As the new academic year begins, we invite you to explore the new Filipino in-language website by visiting ICanGoToCollege.com and clicking on the Tagalog tab at the top left corner. We encourage you to share the website as a resource to your campus and communities, and link to the ICAN website on your college website. If you are interested in adding a web button that links to the Tagalog-language website, please reach out to us for the digital artwork and technical support for how to add the button to your college’s website, if needed.
