| | Vision 2030: Empowering Communities Through Noncredit and Adult Education |
| As California community colleges embrace the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office’s ambitious Vision 2030, noncredit and adult education programs stand out as vital pathways for achieving educational equity and workforce development for all Californians, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances. A close look at recent data and initiatives shows that these inclusive programs are essential to serving and empowering 6.8 million diverse Californians who have not completed a college credential through short-term, flexible, innovative, tuition-free programs to meet 2030 objectives (Christian, 2024, p.7). | | Fostering AI-Ready Building & Moving CTE Pipelines |
| There’s a clear need for policymakers, college leaders, CTE faculty and other stakeholders, including employers, to respond to the growing threats posed by AI. Yet, a lack of understanding, resources, and a space for dialogue, collaboration, and experimentation hampers action. Ultimately, this inaction increases the possibility that today’s CTE will end up repeating its “dark history” of funneling disadvantaged students into low-wage, low-opportunity occupations. The current project aims to increase the capacities of community and technical colleges in Tennessee to reconceptualize and redesign CTE programs of study to prepare students for a workforce that will be impacted by new forms of AI. | | A THOUGHT ABOUT THOUGHT PARTNERS |
| | Expect More to the Story
Tips from our Friends at Expect More – a K-16 Collaborative partner A huge strength in our area is our connection to each other. Add to that our willingness to share ideas, input, and support so that even better results are possible. With trust and working together comes something even better than collaboration – we become thought partners. A great thought partner challenges our thinking, helps us innovate, and expands our ideas. They ask hard questions, not to be discouraging, but to foster new thoughts, larger ways of thinking, and aha moments. We’ve seen this happen all over the county and region over the last few years, sometimes in large groups, often in small groups, and sometimes just 1:1.
Tips for becoming a good thought partner: Tell each other ahead of time that you’re going to be more than just listening and agreeing. You’re going to ask good questions. Hard questions. You’re going to probe into the why and the how. If you feel uncomfortable, that’s okay. Good conversations/debates/deep dives push us to new places. Know that both parties have the best intentions in mind. Actively listen and carefully consider how you respond. When a whole room of passionate thought partners comes together, look out! You might not stay on the agenda, but this is where new ideas are born and where you learn if your position/idea is solid.
