Announcements

•  The NFNRC Staff are proud to announce the arrival of the Improved and Updated North/Far North website! As of July 1, 2016 the nfnrc.org website has been and moved to a  WordPress platform offering a user friendly and relevant website to provide a hub for all regional communications, Regional Meeting Agenda's and Minutes, Meeting RSVP, and more!

• Meeting agendas for NFNRC Regional Meetings, Program Proposal Endorsement Meetings, DSN/Key Talent Meetings, etc will no longer be mailed out to NFNRC members. All agendas will be posted on the nfnrc.org one (1) week prior to the scheduled meeting and a Draft version of the minutes will be posted no more than one (1) week after the meeting.  Each Regional Meeting can be found by visiting the NFN Region Information Hub page.

Upcoming Regional Events & Activities

• Health Careers Exploration Summer Institute:  HESI is a three week institute which provides high school students the opportunity to discover if they are interested in a healthcare career. The next institute is July 18th-August 4th @ Shasta Regional Medical Center.  

• Labor & Delivery Physiologic Review: The Butte College Health Workforce Initiative in collaboration with Enloe Medical Center is offering this event Monday and Tuesday, August 29 and 30, 2016 in Chico, CA.

NFNRC CTE Sector Announcements

Sacramento, Calif. – As part of California’s continued leadership in preparing a workforce of the future to address cybersecurity, the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) hosted the inaugural California Cyber Innovation Challenge (CCIC) at Sacramento City College.  In this demonstration event, eight teams of high school students competed in a series of timed cybersecurity challenges to defend the integrity of simulated computer networks and crack complex codes.

2016 Northern California Fire Summit - The goal of the Fire Technology Summit is to bring together representatives of community colleges offering fire technology programs in Northern California for the purpose of: Fostering Collaboration, Sharing Best Practices, Exchanging Information, Identifying new and emerging trends and needs, and Enhancing the development of vocational education in fire technology/science.

Center of Excellence Updates

Clean Economy Cluster

This report presents findings on the analysis of the Clean Economy cluster. It is the sixth in a series covering the six Next Economy high growth clusters. This report provides an overview and definition of the cluster, industry trends and economic impact, as well as an overview of the occupations in the cluster, along with projected occupational demand, institutions providing related education and training, and spotlight interviews with regional employers.

Small Business Labor Market Needs Assessment

This report provides an overview of the findings from a survey of over 250 small businesses from throughout the Far North Region. Employers were asked about their hiring and recruitment challenges, skill requirements for mid-level positions, training needs and partnership interests.
